Want a Picture-Perfect Smile? Consider Veneers!

Modern dentis try now offers many different ways to fix your smile. One option that is becoming quite popular is the dental veneer. A Wynwood, FL dentist discusses veneers in this article.

W hat Are Veneers?

Veneers are very thin fittings that are bonded onto your teeth. These are custom made to improve the appearance of your teeth. They are great at hiding chipped, stained, or crooked teeth. They can also be used to address crooked teeth, or teeth with wide gaps between them. In fact, they are responsible for many celebrities’ perfect smiles!

Who Needs Veneers

Veneers are considered cosmetic dentistry, as their function is solely to improve the appearance of one’s teeth. Of course, the fact that it’s cosmetic doesn’t mean it’s insignificant. A crooked or stained smile can be a huge blow to one’s self-esteem! Veneers are often used to address issues in cases where other methods, such as braces, whitening, or retainers, aren’t appropriate.

Types Of Veneers

There are two kinds of veneers. Porcelain veneers are very strong, thin caps. Your dentist may have to remove some tooth enamel before placing these veneers. For this reason, they are considered permanent. Porcelain veneers can last up to 20 years, and rarely chip or break. Also, they don’t stain, so your pretty white smile won’t fade over time.

The other type of veneers are resin based. These are thinner, and may not require the removal of your tooth enamel. This is important to consider! Not only does this offer the option of removal, resin veneers are easier to fix or replace. However, they don’t last as long as porcelain veneers, and they do stain over time.

Coloring

Typically, veneers are matched to the natural color of the tooth. This allows a more natural appearance. If you are interested in cosmetic whitening, your dentist will likely advise you to get this done first. You’ll also need to keep up with it, as otherwise your veneers will end up being brighter than the rest of your smile. Ask your dentist for more information.

Process

Getting veneers isn’t exactly one-stop shopping. You’ll need to consult your dentist first, and decide which option is best for you. You’ll then need a few more trips to the dentist to complete your perfect smile.
